TELE timing relays — across the ENYA, VEO, GAMMA and KAPPA series — cover over 20 distinct timing functions from simple on-delay to pulse sequence monitoring, star-delta start-up, staircase lighting and load alternation. Supply voltage 12–240 V AC/DC. All DIN-rail mounted.

TELE monitoring relays measure current, voltage, temperature, frequency, phase sequence, level and power factor — covering single-phase, three-phase and DC networks across ENYA, VEO and GAMMA series. Which TELE series should I choose — ENYA, VEO, GAMMA or KAPPA?

The four series differ in mechanical format and target application. ENYA (17.5/35 mm) is the installation design series for building automation — staircase lighting, 230 V loads. VEO (22.5/45 mm) is the most energy-efficient compact industrial series with push-in terminals and the widest time range selection. GAMMA (22.5/45 mm) is the industrial workhorse — LCD display, power module compatibility and the longest time range (up to 30 days). What is the difference between a timing relay and a monitoring relay?

A timing relay triggers a relay output after (or before) a pre-set time interval — it sequences processes in time. A monitoring relay continuously measures a physical value (current, voltage, temperature, level, frequency, power factor) and switches a relay output when that value crosses a set threshold. Many TELE devices combine both in a single multifunction unit — an on-delay function (timing) plus an over/under threshold (monitoring).

What is the advantage of power factor (cos φ) monitoring over simple current monitoring?

Simple current monitoring cannot reliably detect underload in motors because motor current stays relatively high even at no load (due to magnetising current). The power factor (cos φ) drops sharply in underload — from ~0.85–0.95 at nominal load to below 0.5 at idle — making it an accurate indicator of real load. TELE cos φ monitors detect V-belt breaks, pump cavitation, blocked impellers and empty running without any mechanical or proximity sensors, and they work even in harsh environments where sensors would fail from contamination or condensation.

What does the eCap / SensAct Modbus series add over standard power monitors?

Standard TELE power monitors output a relay contact (trip or alarm) for local machine protection. The SensAct and eCap series additionally output all measured values — power, energy, voltage, current, cos φ, frequency, THD — digitally via Modbus RTU (RS485) to a PLC, HMI or IoT gateway. This enables remote monitoring, predictive maintenance dashboards, energy billing and process automation, making the analog machine data available anywhere via cloud connection.
