Steel Mills - RIM Tach® 8500 NexGen Encoder
Compact and bearingless, the RIM8500 NexGen mounts to any 180 C Face motor. The Stainless steel and cast iron construction make it a perfect fit for the harsh conditions in a steel mill. Sensor modules are removable on the fly allowing for quick replacement and require no gapping.
NexGen RIM Tach RT8
NexGen 8.5″ 180 C-Face motor tach is easy to install with wider air gap, high power line driver and improved wheel design. Up to 2,400 PPR.
NexGen RIM Tach RT6
NexGen 56 C-Face or foot mount shafted encoder with wider air gap, built in diagnostic LED and high-power line driver. Up to 2,400 PPR.
NexGen RIM Tach RT1
NexGen 12.5″ 250 C-Face mount motor tach with wide air gap for easy installation, high power line driver and ESD protection. Up to 2,400 PPR.

DWD38 – Drawworks Applications
The DWD38 encoder is designed exclusively for drawworks applications on an oil rig. The NorthStar DWD38 is certified as an ATEX Zone 0 Intrinsically Safe encoder. The DWD38 has a temperature range of -40 to 100°C with a 400g shock rating making it ideal for the tough environment of the oil rig.
EN42 – Drilling Motor Applications
The EN42 is ATEX certified for use in Zone 1 on the oil rig. A barrier is normally required for a Zone 1 application which can add additional cost to the solution. The EN42 encapsulated electronics eliminate the need for a barrier and with an industry leading -50 to 100°C temperature range, it is ideal for Zone 1
EN44 – Drilling Motor Applications
The EN44 is ATEX certified for use in Zone 1 on the oil rig. A barrier is normally required for a Zone 1 application which can add additional cost to the solution. The EN44 isolated coupling compensates for motor shaft run out and endplay and the encapsulated electronics remove the need for a barrier.
