STEEL BILLET LENGTH MEASUREMENT
Non-contact length measurement of steel billets can be achieved using our Astech Germany Make VLM500 sensors that are capable of accurately detecting the length of a moving or stationary object without physical contact. These sensors typically rely on principles such as CCD sensor / spatial filter & Correlation.
Principle: Laser sensors use a laser beam that is directed at the surface of the steel billet. The laser beam is reflected back to a sensor. This distance can be calculated by using the principles such as CCD sensor / spatial filter & Correlation.
Advantages
- High accuracy and resolution.
- Can measure the billet length without touching the surface.
- Suitable for high-speed moving objects.
- Suitable for HOT temperature Billets
- Very precise and fast measurement of distance.
- High tolerance for environmental conditions like heat or dust.
- Can be used for billets in varying shapes and sizes.
- Can also be used for visual inspection.
- Works in harsh environments (e.g., high temperatures, dusty environments).
- Can measure distances accurately over long ranges.
- Can measure large distances and provide real-time measurements.
- Useful for long-range billet length measurement.
Applications
- Can be used to monitor the billet length as it moves along a conveyor or roller system.
- Used for both length measurement and speed measurements of Billets
- Often employed in automated quality control systems, where the length and surface quality are both assessed simultaneously.
- Ideal for situations where the billet moves at high speeds, and other optical sensors may be obstructed by environmental factors like smoke or steam.
- Used in advanced quality control systems where both dimensional and geometric information is needed.
- Primarily used in applications where steel billets are moving through areas with high ambient temperatures, such as in rolling mills or heat treatment areas.
- Suitable for measuring the length of long billets moving along conveyor systems.
- Used in automated production environments where both quality and dimensions need to be monitored.
Conclusion
For non-contact length measurement of steel billets our Astech Germany Make VLM500 sensors are the most commonly used technologies due to their accuracy and speed. The choice of sensor depends on specific application requirements such as the billet temperature, speed, surface condition, and environmental factors.
